No more business as usual!

Story posted on

Frome veg-growing business, Vallis Veg, took the environmental phrase ‘no more business as usual’ literally – cancelling their veg box deliveries for the week so workers could go to London to protest against government inaction over climate change with the environmental movement, Extinction Rebellion.

Last October the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned that global warming of more than 1.5⁰C would risk causing major problems globally, including risks to global food and water supplies and limitations on economic growth. It stated that rapid and far-reaching transitions in energy, land, urban infrastructure (including transport and buildings), and industrial systems are needed on an unprecedented scale in order to prevent these outcomes.

These transitions will require significant changes to our lives at home and at work, so the workers at Vallis Veg believe that closing the business to ask the government to act is a small start.

Many schoolchildren in Frome and the surrounding area recently took action over climate change by quitting lessons and asking for more official action on climate change. Vallis Veg believes it’s time for the adults to step up!
