First Solar Streets house in Frome finished

Story posted on

The first household to sign up to Frome’s Solar Streets has already had its panels installed and is soaking up the sun to provide renewable energy and save the householders money and carbon.

Interest in the initiative since it launched in March this year has gone from strength to strength with over 90 enquiries received, 53 surveys completed and 15 installations already underway.

Mayor of Frome, cllr Mark Dorrington said, “Frome Town Council has declared a climate emergency and aims to be carbon neutral by 2030, so it’s great to see so many local residents interested. It’s a really effective and efficient way of cutting carbon and costs for your home.”

At the second information evening held on the 21 May, local solar installer IDDEA explained just how simple it is to create energy for your home and make a difference to the environment. And now it’s more cost effective than ever with a hugely discounted offer available for Frome households.

A 4 kw solar pv system to generate clean electricity usually costs around £6,000, but this has been reduce to £3,750, including a £50 donation to a local community solar project via FRECo. As an added incentive, anyone who recommends the scheme to a friend will also receive £100 bonus if the installation goes ahead.

IDDEA are working with Frome Renewable Energy Co-op and Frome Town Council and will have an information stall at Improve Don’t Move on Saturday 8th June.

Stop by the Town Hall between 10am and 3pm to find out how solar could work for you or find out more about Solar Streets by going to www.frometowncouncil .gov.uk/solar-streets
