Story posted on

The recent wet and at times chilly weather has added to Frome Park bowlers’ woes, with results not going their way.

The men’s team have not performed to their best and have had some disappointing games.  In the County league, Frome Park A went down 46 – 67 at home against Knowle A, only managing to pick up 2 points, with the winning rink of Kim Pitts, Richard Phillips, John Pritchard & Steve West.

An away trip to Street also ended in a defeat, but Park did play well on 2 rinks to win on both to pick up 4 points but lost the game overall by 18 shots, final score was 74 – 56.  Frome’s best winning rink was Steve Cantrell, Chris White, Dave Whitehead & Peter Jennings 17 – 14.

This was followed by a home match against Castle Cary where the visitors claimed a   massive victory on all 4 rinks and maximum points with an overall score of 58 – 78.

Frome’s only rink to get close to their opponents was Steve Cantrell, Clive Smith, Les Stather & Steve West who disappointingly lost the last end to lose their match by 1 shot 15 – 16.

The ladies in a friendly against Bath were a little unlucky not to win after claiming victory on 2 rinks, but losing heavily on the other one, finally going down 57 – 52.  Frome’s best performing team was Val Rose, Val Smith & Joan Curtis, winning 21 – 9.

The mixed team played well against Fosseway in the Mixed MSL to claim maximum points, winning overall by 16 shots with the stand out team of Val Smith, Alan Cottle, Clive Smith & Eddie Maidment winning comfortably 19 – 12.

This was followed with another league match against local rivals Frome Selwood who finished the stronger to win overall by 7 shots, 46 – 53.  Park had one winning rink – Julie Hunt, Les Stather, Eddie Maidment & Richard Phillips.
