Frome band’s reunion – The Mighty Rooster Crow Again

Story posted on

After many years, Frome favourites The Mighty Rooster have reformed for a couple of gigs in the area over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

After a number of years developing their trademark sound of folkish rock or rockish folk, the band were frequently seen on the streets of the town, performing at events like the Christmas Extravaganza and the Catherine Hill Street Fair. They performed in the Cheese and Grain on numerous occasions, booked to support bands as diverse as John Otway and Osibisa, from the Fureys to the Sweet. After headlining small folk and music festivals around the country, the band performed its last gig in Frome in 2005.

14 years later, they are back with a gig at the Cornerhouse on 24th August, followed swiftly by a slot at the Box Rocks Festival on Bank Holiday Monday. The classic line up of Pete Baker, Steve Heath, Simon Clark, Dean Creighton and Mike Varty will be performing numbers drawn from their three CDs of original material.

Organisers say, “Their music is hard to pigeon hole, but instantly memorable. Tunes bury themselves in your subconscious and their sound, based around strong vocals and a powerful musical line-up mixing rock and folk instrumentation, creates a sound like no other. Why not come along to find out more?”
