Dynamic couple breathe new life into The White Hart at Corsley

Story posted on

The White Hart in Corsley has reopened its doors for the first time in two years, with new landlords, Adelle Gill and Steve Ellis, behind the bar.

The couple are promising an exciting ‘interactive’ experience at the pub, ‘fairly’ priced food and drink, and Steve’s ‘famous’ Yorkshire puddings.

They aren’t strangers to the area as they ran the Cross Keys in Corsley prior to moving to the White Hart.

Prior to the grand opening last month, Steve and Adelle spent weeks revamping the pub, which is owned by the Longleat estate, and located between Frome and Warminster.

“We’ve done a lot of work on the place,” they said. “The walls were bright orange and purple when we first took over! But it has  been rewarding to do the work for ourselves. As this is our lease, our building, we want to represent what a freehouse should be.

“Our drinks are going to be between £3.30 and £3.70 – we want to offer proper freehouse prices. And to make the pub more interactive we also have a ‘wheel of fortune’ that customers can spin. The wheel has different options on it, and wherever the wheel stops, it will determine a drinks special for the next few hours – for example if it lands on ‘vodka and cokes for £1.50’, the whole pub will get that for the next few hours.”

Steve and Adelle previously ran the Cross Keys in Corsley – after moving to the area from Yorkshire – where they became well known for Steve’s Yorkshire puddings. And fans of Steve’s Yorkshires can find them on the menu at The White Hart.

Customers can enjoy the ‘Yorkshire slider’ – three giant puddings stuffed with different fillings.  And the couple are promising occasional Yorkshire pudding specials such as the ‘Yorkshire burrito’ –  a flat Yorkshire pudding with all the best bits of a Sunday roast wrapped inside.

“We’ll be doing more things with Yorkshire puddings, like a cottage pie inside a giant one. And we’ll  also have a Yorkshire pudding dessert with ice cream inside!”

Other items on the menu include traditional pub fayre such as fish and chips, pies, currys and burgers.

Also on offer at The White Hart is local produce from local companies, including Lilley’s Cider and a Somerset wine company. The couple also plan to offer live music at the venue, and are inviting local musicians to come and perform.

I’m struggling to understand what comes through on the chapmanslade locals Facebook portal which you contribute to
I’m very interested in pubs, love curry and i live a mile or so away.
I really can’t readily see what your planned curry night on 18th is saying.— Too much whizzing pictures of plates of food and nothing substantive
Can you advise please but without whizzing plates of food
    Things like:
    What time
    How to book a table
    God forbid a phone number?
