Frome is streets ahead with new solar initiative

Story posted on

Since its launch earlier this year, the Solar Streets Initiative has proved popular with residents with in excess of 70 installations to date!

Offering reduced price solar panels to homeowners in Frome is just part of the campaign backed by Frome Town Council & FRECo.

IDDEA Ltd, a local installer, have over 800 projects under their belt and following the announcement of a climate emergency in the area decided to work with local communities to tackle the issue.

By concentrating installations in particular locations, costs such as scaffolding can be significantly         reduced for homeowners.

“We have purchased solar panels from IDDEA under the local scheme,” says local resident, AJ Gibson. “Sole ownership is ours and for the price of £3,000 it is very economical.

“The money is added to the house value, therefore not lost. Immediately we have hot water all the time at present, without paying for it and we save every year on energy bills. Next year our surplus earns a special rate from the energy company and we also help the planet – and it needs it. Hard to think of a better investment for the money!”

Another local resident, Val Henderson, adds, “I had wondered about having solar panels previously, but the expense had put me off. For the very reasonable prices with IDDEA, I felt that I could make a contribution towards helping the environment and a future for my grandchildren. Now I am using my own electricity and feeding into the grid, for the price of a posh holiday!”

Not only has the environment benefited from the scheme with more than 100 tonnes of CO2 saved per annum but the initiative has raised enough for an array to be installed on the YMCA in Frome, offering them both environmental and monetary savings.

Installations will continue into 2020 and interested residents are encouraged to make contact with the IDDEA team to find out more.
