An open invitation to Frome writers

Story posted on

A warm welcome and a glass of glühwein awaits local wordsmiths at a special open evening at The Write Place on Friday 29th November.

Members are offering writers new and old a free invitation to bring pens or laptops and their work any time between 3pm and 8pm and find out how good it feels to write together. Or simply bring themselves and enjoy looking around and chatting to other writers.

Kate McEwan, who set up this not-for-profit community group two years ago says, “Whether they are writing a letter, a poem or a novel, all writers need time and a quiet place to work. But this doesn’t mean they have to place themselves in solitary confinement to do it. The main aim of the Write Place is to banish ‘lonely writer syndrome’ and provide a welcoming space for writers to work together. It’s much harder to procrastinate when you work alongside other people, so everyone gets a lot more done than they would on their own. We want writers in every genre to know about this wonderfully affordable facility right on their doorstep, so look forward to showing off what we have to offer during next Friday’s Light the Night Christmas celebrations.”

The Write Place has two studios on the top floor of Black Swan Arts and tries to provide everything a would-be or professional writer could wish for – six days a week. In the mobile-free zone, there are ten desks that can be reserved in advance by members or anyone needing a few quiet hours to work on a project. Across the hall, the Chat Room is the perfect chill-out space to eat, talk or relax in the shiatsu massage chair. And if pressures of work or home make weekdays difficult for writing, then an intensive retreat on the second Sunday of every month gives you the opportunity to write your socks off for the whole day.
