Weds. 1st Jan. Southern League Div. One Frome Town 2-1 Cinderford Town

Rob Hobbs’ New Year’s Day brace helped Frome Town recover from their Boxing Day blues, as The Robins won 2-1 at home against Cinderford Town.

Robins’ manager Danny Greaves made one change to his side following the shock 4-1 defeat away at Melksham Town, as Rex Mannings came in for Dan Cottle. Hobbs gave The Robins the lead after ten minutes, as he slid the ball home from close range, following some consistent pressure from the home side.

The opening 45 minutes meandered somewhat after The Robins opener, as there was much end-to-end football being played with little end product.

The Robins midfielder secured his brace just before half-time, as he latched onto a nice throughball after evading the Cinderford defence, before slotting it past the visiting ‘keeper.

The visitors would find their way back into proceedings, just after the break, as Frome ‘keeper Rob Brown fumbled a cross into the back of the net.

After The Foresters’ equaliser, the second half settled into the same end-to-end rhythm of the first 45, as neither side found themselves being able to carve open an opportunity for themselves.

A couple of unforced errors from the hosts gave the Gloucestershire side a foothold in the game, but they weren’t able to consolidate and build on the pressure they started to exert.

The hosts would hold on for the victory as The Robins roared into the twenties with another victory, as they look to close the gap between them and league leaders Thatcham Town.
