Vallis First School End of Year Report 2019

Story posted on

It has been a busy and exciting year at Vallis, with the children taking part in a wide range of events and learning activities. It has also been one of change as the school said a fond farewell to its long standing Headteacher Naomi Pauley who left after 14 years at the school and welcomed their new Headteacher, Nick Firkins.

Throughout the year, the children have used the local environment to enhance their learning. Foundation Stage and Key Stage One went on lots of local walks – looking at the changes in the seasons, local buildings and to see what was growing in our allotment. The Year 2 children made super space collages as part of the Frome Window Wonderland trail. During a number of family learning events, KS1 made space animations, aliens and bog babies. Lots of exciting experiments were carried out during Science week and the children had visits from different authors during the year. They ended the academic year with a trip to Old Wardour castle where the children dressed up, juggled and danced the day away!

The Key Stage Two children have also enjoyed a host of exciting activities. Our Year 4s had a great time at their residential stay in Osmington Bay last March. They also enjoyed a ‘make do and mend’ session with their parents and cooking a vegetable casserole whilst learning about WWII.
