Curriculum review for Avanti School

Story posted on

The Avanti Schools Trust, in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Primary School, are to conduct a review of the curriculum for the three new Avanti schools in the South West, including Avanti Park School in Frome.

Formerly known as the Steiner Academy, Avanti Park School was formally taken over by Avanti Schools Trust last year after it was placed into ‘Special Measures’ by Ofsted, who rated it as ‘inadequate’.

A spokesperson for the Avanti Schools Trust said, “The review (of the curriculum) will be an opportunity for the trust to hear from people within each school community (children, parents/carers and teachers).

“The trust are keen to understand why these schools are special, what is important to maintain and what needs to change. The review is not about imposing a particular view of education onto each community, but rather to open up possibilities and to find synergy.

“The aim of this curriculum review is to investigate how the curriculum can align aspects of Waldorf principles in synergy with the ‘Avanti Way’.

“AST’s Board of Trustees are clear that as state funded schools there is a balance that needs to be struck in order to ensure that the new curriculum that will be implemented in the three schools from September 2020 is ambitious and designed to give all learners the knowledge, skills and human qualities, underpinned by values, that they need to succeed in life.

“The scope of the review will encompass: Identify key principles upon which the new curriculum can be designed; Identify possible principles which will inform implementation of the curriculum; Identify meaningful opportunities to evaluate learning and develop assessment ; Identify how SEND provision could create cultures in which everyone is welcome and included.”
