Story posted on

Songs for the Memory, a group set up to support people living with dementia through the enjoyment of music, was awarded £200 by the Frome Dementia Action Alliance. (DAA)

Songs for the Memory is a stimulating group session designed for people with dementia and their carers in Frome. The group focuses on promoting confidence and enhancing the wellbeing of those affected by memory problems and is designed around the principles of music therapy and singing.

Frome DAA is a volunteer group, chaired by Jenny Atkins, registered manager of Bluebird Care in Frome. Jenny says “We are all too familiar with cuts being made to services and to ensure groups such as the Songs for the Memory continue their great work, the Frome DAA are delighted to award £200 to enable them to continue their much needed work.”

The objective of the Frome DAA is to make Frome a dementia friendly town. Their aim is to continue the work of raising awareness, creating safe spaces and support those living with dementia within our community to live happy and fulfilled lives.
