Tiny Homes and the housing crisis

Story posted on

Could tiny housing be part of the solution to Frome’s housing crisis?

Tiny homes can create flexible and affordable housing options for young and not so young people struggling with low wages and rising rents, encourage a simpler and more sustainable way of life, and provide an opportunity to live in the community, share resources, and develop new skills and social enterprises.

On 22nd March, Fair Housing for Frome (FHfF) is organizing the UK’s first all-day event to explore the potential of tiny homes, self-build and co-housing. It will take place at the Cheese & Grain and will include speakers, seminars, exhibits and films, as well as opportunities to gather information and connect with like-minded people.

“This will be a great day out for anyone who is interested in building their own eco-friendly tiny home, in creating an additional living space in their garden, or simply in exploring a less cluttered way of life,” said Alison Murdoch from Fair Housing for Frome. “Our speakers and exhibitors include architects and builders who have designed carbon neutral buildings and flat pack housing solutions, converted shipping containers, and constructed their own timber frame buildings, as well as people who will share their personal experience of tiny living. Booking is now open on Eventbrite, and places are limited, so don’t miss out. You can also find more information at www.fairhousingforfrome.org.uk and on facebook.”
