‘Shop local to help keep our town alive!’

Shops prepare for post-lockdown re-opening

LOCAL people are being urged to shop locally to help Frome’s businesses get back on their feet after lockdown, as the government plans to allow non-essential stores to re-open on April 12th.

With months of lost trade during the lockdown, many businesses are now in a fight for survival.

Mayor, cllr Anita Collier, has issued a plea through the Frome Times, for the community to get behind local businesses saying now is the time to show your support for them. They need you more than ever if they are to survive, she says.

“With spring now in the air, let’s make this a new beginning for our local traders too, by going out and supporting them where you can when the shops reopen,” she said.

“Our shopkeepers have been through so much in the past year and it’s up to us to keep buying from our wonderful array of independent shops, so let’s keep it local and allow our shops to thrive again.”

Local shop owner, Matt Gillman from Matthew Paul Interiors, said, “It’s been a tough year for everybody, but we’re very excited and happy that we’re going to be open again. And get back to some normality.

“Frome is so unique, it has a high percentage of independent shops – who all work together to try and make the town a better place – so it’s important that people support us as it keeps the town going.

“I’m personally really excited to reopen and get back to what I should be doing again. To be with people again, welcome customers back through the doors, it will be fantastic.

“Frome is such a friendly town, and a large percentage of residents support the town – it will be great to see everyone back in the town.”

Nikki at the Rose Garden / Wooden Floor Studio, said, “We’ve been overwhelmed with the support we’ve had over this crazy year. Frome is such an amazing community that is always behind their local businesses, and that means so much, spending local helps to support local jobs and trades. With new space opening soon we are so looking forward to being able to welcome customers back to our shop.”

Can’t wait for you to open, Matt, then we will be proper neighbours. Thank you for the warm welcome when we opened at Not Just Pets opposite you recently. Huge good luck for April 12th and onwards.
