Frome Lions’ annual sponsored swim presentation

AT the recent presentation night held at Frome Rugby Club, Lion President Greg Wood welcomed the participants of this year’s Frome Lions’ annual sponsored swim.

The swim allows teams to raise money for their own causes as well as raising money for a Lions’ designated charity. The money raised by the teams is divided equally between the Lions’ charity and the swimmer’s own charity or cause.

This year the Lions’ chosen charity was SHINE who provide specialist advice and support for spina bifida and hydrocephalus across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. With the event raising £4,000 this year, the Lions will be donating £2,000 to SHINE

This year’s successful teams were as followed:

Rode & Norton Swordfish were awarded the John Barrow Cup for being the best performing school (chosen by the Lions’ president).

Warminster Swimming Club Team 4 (U11’s) were recognised for completing the most laps – 65 laps.

Warminster Swimming Club were awarded the Gerald Williams Shield for collecting the most sponsorships by organisations with more than one team.

Flintford Flyers were recognised for raising the most sponsorships.

Frome Netball Club were recognised for completing the most laps (out of the non-swimming clubs).

Warminster Swimming Club Team 6 was awarded the Aggregate Industries Cup for the team completing the most laps (80).

Friends of Flintford Team 1 were awarded the President’s Cup for being the team to complete the most widths.

The Lions say they are again indebted to Aggregate Industries for generously sponsoring the event which covered the cost of pool hire and sundry expenses which means that all monies raised by the swimmers will go to the Lions chosen charity and the swimmers’ charities or causes.
