Merlin Theatre Needs YOU!

IF you are new-to-Frome or simply love theatre, comedy, dance or film and you are looking for a volunteer role in a treasured venue at the heart of Frome’s community then… look no further! The Merlin, the town’s professional community theatre, is in need of senior stewards to help keep the show on the road.

As theatre director, Claudia Pepler, explains, “We don’t receive any arts funding so finances are a very delicate balance and our volunteer stewards are vital; without them we would not be able to open and run safely.  Offering just a few hours a month to our little theatre will make a BIG difference to our community and, of course, it is a lot of fun for all involved.”

The theatre’s greatest need at the moment is for front of house managers.  More than just a meet-and-greet, help-to-your-seat, safety-aware positions, these are fairly senior roles supporting a team before, during and after shows; a great addition for adding to a career CV or for anyone used to heading up a smooth-running busy scene with a calm smile, the theatre welcomes you to get in touch if you think this could be for you.

Naturally, volunteer positions are unpaid but as Claudia says, “You will be part of a close-knit team, providing exceptional customer service in a lively, vibrant venue, supporting the arts at a crucial time as we re-build our audiences post-Covid. In return for your sunny disposition and just a little of your time we offer volunteers the opportunity to see free shows, ongoing support and training, the chance to take an active part in the local community, make new friends and, of course, free ice cream!”

If you are over 21, reliable, friendly, cool-headed, articulate, polite with the public, able to support a small team and have some experience in money handling with a willingness to learn the in-house ticketing-technology then you are encouraged to contact theatre co-Ordinator, Kaz Bold.  She’d love to hear from you to set up an informal chat via merlincoordinator@ gmail.com
