Lions Annual Summer Fete a great success

FROME locals didn’t let the bad weather stop them from having a good time, as people came in their hundreds to enjoy the free Frome Lions Annual Summer Fete last Saturday!

Thomas the Tank Engine makes an appearance at the Summer Fete.

The well-established event saw people travel from across the local area to see the 40 different craft and food stalls, as well as to catch a glimpse of the range of entertainment and live music/dance performances available on the day.

Michael Geake, publicity officer for Frome Lions said, “I’m very impressed with the turnout today as we expected the worse with the weather, but we were pleasantly surprised! We had the largest selection of stalls to choose from in a very long time, so a big thank you to everyone that set up with us – we had over 31 different organisations with us on the day that have stalls and about 40 pitches!

“The Lions Summer Fete is one of the longest running Frome events and we’ve managed to stay strong despite Covid restrictions cancelling us for two years, so I can’t thank the people of Frome enough for their support. The whole purpose of this event is to give the people of Frome a great day out as they support us all year round.”

The Frome Flyers Cheerleaders, Phoenix Twirlstars, Dave Hickory Magic, Infinity Dance and Frome Dog Training Club all came down on the day to entertain families.

Also on the day was the return of the Frome Lions train which took children on a trip around Victoria Park to see everything on offer. A new attraction at the fete was the stocks, where visitors were encouraged to throw a wet sponge at a Lions Club member!

Mike added, “We were a bit concerned that the train would be a no-show as it broke down earlier in the day but thankfully it was repaired, and the ride was put back on track.

“The highlight for me was just seeing the many different smiling faces – it makes all the work worthwhile on the day when you can see everyone enjoying themselves. Thank you so much to all the performers, the stall holders and to the rest of the Lions Club for their help with making this a reality.”
