Issue 285 – Cyclists raise cash for PAC

Enthusiastic cyclists have completed a bike ride for local charity Positive Action on Cancer (PAC).

Participants of the “Fromerang Cycle for PAC” set off from the ASDA car park at 10.00am on Saturday 26th September to cover a course over the beautiful Somerset and Wiltshire countryside.
The event was organised by Wayne de Leeuw and his brother-in-law Miles Peyton. Both wanted to use their passion for cycling to help the community, and so created Ride Your Bike Challenge events. “Our remit is to raise money for charity and get people cycling,” Miles explained.
Participants chose to complete either a 30 mile or 50 mile course at their leisure, taking in landmarks such as Longleat Forest, Shearwater Lake, and the Wylye Valley. The ride follows a successful event held for Dorothy House Hospice care earlier this year.
Positive Action on Cancer is the only organisation in BANES, Somerset and West Wiltshire to provide free, professional counselling to adults and children affected by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. The main service is situated in the centre of Frome, with other services in Bath, Warminster, and Trowbridge.
Miles and Wayne hope to continue the good work with around 10 more rides over the next year. “We want to catch onto a wave of euphoria about cycling,” Miles said.
