Issue 304 – Carnival royalty

Frome Carnival’s royalty for 2010 has been selected at special ceremonies at Frome Town Football Club and Kingsway Bingo Club on Saturday 26th June.

Frome’s Carnival Queen for 2010 is Alicia Gill, who was crowned alongside her attendants, Lauren Chapman, Amy Coles, Kelly Pleasants and Fiona Easton. This year’s Children’s Carnival Queen is Wynona Kehoe and her maids of honour are Tia Roach, Molly Wright, Tigan Marsh and Chelsea Lacey. Liz Wadington was crowned Carnival Gran and Frome Carnival’s Miss Teenager for 2010 is Billie Marklew, and her attendant Bethan Flynn.
The children’s Carnival Queen and Carnival Granny choosing ceremonies took place in the afternoon, while the crownings of Miss Teenager and the adult Carnival Queen were held later that evening.  Both events attracted large audiences, all eager to support their favourites and they were both presided over by Frome Town Crier, Mike Bishop who said, “We have a tremendous group of young ladies to represent Frome this year.”
The money raised on the door will go towards the Frome Carnival Charities Association, which provides help to those in need throughout Frome and the surrounding area.
Chairman of Frome Carnival, June Barnes said, “I would like to extend my thanks to the small but hard working members of the Carnival committee and to the judges who had a difficult task due to the high standard of entries. I would also like to thank the football club and the Kingsway bingo club for letting us use their facilities for the competitions”
The Carnival needs your help. If you would like to volunteer, the Carnival is still looking for money collectors and marshalls for the children’s Carnival at 2.30pm and the main procession in the evening which both take place on the 25th September. Don’t forget the Carnival music and cider festival at Circus Field at Marston from 4.00pm till late. Great food and entertainment!
