Issue 307 – Memorial Theatre & FAOS need your help

Are you enthusiastic, fun loving and wanting to get more involved in the community life in Frome?

Do you want to be part of David Cameron’s Big Society? Do you want to enjoy the pleasure of meeting some well known celebrities such as Jethro, Ken Dodd, Pam Ayres and Paul Merton, together with working with one of Frome’s longest established entertainment institutions, the FAOS, then now is your chance!
Come to the Frome Memorial Theatre complex on Saturday 4th September at 11.00am and meet members of both the Frome Memorial Theatre and Frome Operatic Society in the Assembly Rooms (behind the theatre), for a tour around the complex and an explanation of what volunteers they require, from lighting to front of house, and from performing to musicians.
Humphrey Barnes, chairman of the Memorial Theatre Trust and Andrew Carpenter, chairman of the Frome Operatic Society will give brief background information, before some of the backstage crew and other experts go into more detail in specific areas for those interested.
They say, “We need your help in becoming a backstage crew member, spotlight operator, make up, dressers, box office personnel, front of house stewards, handymen (or women), administrators, props makers, singers, So do not delay, sign up with us today and enjoy the fantastic comradeship of all the volunteers. We have a varied and enjoyable social life as well, as you would expect from a group of people passionate about theatre.
“To allow us to understand how many people are likely to turn up, we would appreciate you contacting us in advance to let us know you are coming, and to give us some idea as to what your area of interest is. If, however, you just fancy a tour around the theatre and want a better understanding of how the theatre and the operatic society are run, that is fine too.
“Please contact either Gill Barnes on 01373 463427 if your interest is specifically theatre orientated or Andrew Carpenter for operatic society interest on 01373 465503.
“On the 4th September, we are going to finish the morning at 12.30pm with the opening of the Snook Bucklar Property Dock and you will be most welcome to join current theatre and society members for that as well should you choose to do so.”
