Issue 511 – Frome Hoard to return to the town

THE FROME hoard, the largest collection of coins to be found in Britain, dating back to the third century AD will be returning to Frome Library on Saturday 23rd October.

Local people will have another chance to see some of the coins, meet people involved in the hoard’s discovery and take the opportunity to buy the new booklet about the hoard from 10.00am – 12.00 noon.
There will also be a talk on the Frome Hoard, given by experts who can reveal more about the turbulent times in which the coins were buried on Saturday 23rd October, 2.30pm-4.30pm at Rook Lane Chapel. Tickets are available from the Frome Library, adults £4, children £2.
The complete hoard, containing over 52,500 coins dating back to around the 3rd Century AD, was uncovered by metal detector user, Dave Crisp, on farmland close to Frome. The hoard’s first public showing was held in Frome in July, when 2,000 people turned up to see the display.
