Issue 323 – Jenson to return to open Button bridge?

FORMER Formula One World Champion Jenson Button is being asked to return to his home town to open the new Button bridge named after him.

Councillors agreed to contact Jenson’s management team to see if the Formula One star is available in the last week of June to officially open the pedestrian bridge.
At a full council meeting of Frome Town Council, cllr Damon Hooton made the suggestion to invite the Frome- born celebrity to visit the town. “It would be great to have Jenson here,” he said.
“If he is able to attend at the end of June, then this will tie in with our twinning event.
“It is also the weekend just before the British Grand Prix, so there is a good chance he will be in the country.”
The Button bridge was opened to the public earlier this month.
Jenson came back to Frome in May last year to be awarded with an honorary citizenship award after winning the Formula One World Championship in 2009.
Councillors have asked questions about what the costs might be to have Jenson return to his home town.
Cllr Hooton has invited the public to express their opinion on whether or not money should be spent hiring Jenson to open the bridge.
