Issue 324 – Silver medal in junior British Airgun Championships

Michael Dyer from Frome, who shoots with the GB Junior Target Rifle Squad, recently a silver medal in the British Airgun Championships held at the National Shooting Centre at Bisley.

Michael has competed in the championships twice before when he was shooting in the ‘sporter’ discipline. This year was the first time he has competed at the British Open in the ‘precision’ class as he has only recently changed to shoot in this discipline.
Michael clinched second and third place in two competitions in class D and then came 2nd overall in the aggregate scoring of the two competitions.
Unfortunately, he had a malfunction with the air cylinder on his air rifle during Sunday’s competition, which resulted in a below par performance.
Michael said, “I know it sounds a bit odd, but in some ways, I’m glad things went wrong on the Sunday as I was able to use it as a learning curve for future events such as when I go to Germany in May with the GB Squad for an international competition.
“As for coming second in the aggregate scores, I was pleased that I was placed for getting a medal and if I had to come second to anyone, I’m glad it was to one of my GB teammates, Jack Rivers.”
After the competition closed, Michael was presented with a medal by the National Smallbore Rifle Association, who organise the annual event.
