Issue 327 – Record-breaking fundraisers for British Heart Foundation

FROME voluntary branch of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) has broken its 28-year record by raising over £10,000 in a year for the first time ever.

At the recent Annual General Meeting, branch hon treasurer David Spackman announced that more money had been raised than in any previous year in the branch’s history.
Chairman John Osborne from Rode congratulated members on their hard work and achievement and thanked the many families from the local area that had given donations in the past year. He said, “The money comes from various events over the year, such as bingo nights and fetes. Funds are also left to us in memoriam.”
Area BHF fundraising manager, Paul Bancroft, thanked the branch and said, “This is a magnificent achievement from a small group of very dedicated supporters. The majority of the money will go towards groundbreaking research into diseases of the heart and circulation.
“The remainder will be divided between the BHF’s education, care and local equipment programmes, which prevent disease and treat cardiac patients. This money will benefit today’s sufferers of heart and circulatory disease and the generations to come. With 2.68 million people in this country currently living with and suffering from heart disease there is clearly much still to do.”
