Issue 341 – Frome continues its great support for Poppy Appeal

ONCE again, the people of Frome have responded with huge generosity to this year’s Poppy Appeal, with over £23,500 raised from the area.

Nunney collected £1,330 and Frome raised over £21,600; with gift aid added this brings the grand total for Frome and Nunney to over £23,500.
Jane Wood, poppy appeal organiser said, “The Poppy Appeal has been better than last year and I would like to thank everyone, from the important person who buys the poppy to the people who make it available for sale.
“This figure includes £916.13 raised at the Showstoppers concert. This was a memorable evening where the contributions from the Royal British Legion, FAOS and Oakfield School Academy all came together to create something very special.
“I have had wonderful help from so many people this year and with the amazing attendance at the Memorial services it is clear that the help we are providing to serving members of the armed forces, as well as assistance to settle back into civilian life and then cope with the problems getting old brings, is being recognised. The Legion spends £1.4million per week on all aspects of its work and about £16,000 of that is spent in Somerset.
“We always need more help with the appeal and if anyone wishes to volunteer, I can be contacted on 07968 021671 or janewoodpao@ yahoo.co.uk. If you need help or know of someone who does, either contact the national help line 08457 725 725 who will pass you onto the correct local welfare worker or www.britishlegion.org.uk .
“This year has seen fewer repatriations but sadly there are still some, and our thoughts are always with the troops on the front line and their families.”
