Make merry with the Mayor – and support your local

The mayor of Frome, cllr Nick White, is calling for the people of Frome to support their local pub by joining his pub crawl, at the same time raising funds for his nominated charities: Frome Town Youth Band, Frome Carnival and Frome & District Day Centre. Nick said, “I wish to try and encourage the townsfolk to ‘support your local’. It’s a well known fact that Britain’s pubs are in serious decline, and Frome is no exception, so the pub crawl is an attempt to get people to re-connect with the town’s watering holes. “I love pub life and want to try and promote and preserve the sense of community that public houses help to achieve. Pubs are great for: improving social cohesion, fostering intergenerational relationships, combating isolation and generating community well being. “I have deliberately used these ‘buzz words’ as they have appeared in countless government backed reports as to how all these things can be improved. Well look no further, the answer has been with us for hundreds of years and we are in danger of letting it slip through our fingers. If you feel isolated get down the pub! “We are rich in the range of pubs that we have and the different offerings they provide. We have some absolute gems, many of which will be a complete surprise to a lot people in the town.” The mayor’s pub crawl will run from Sunday 8th April, with events at different pubs throughout the week such as cribbage, quizzes, live music, etc. It culminates with the mayor visiting all establishments on Saturday 14th April, and the evening will conclude with a live band and disco at Bar 11. To take part you will need to purchase a passport type ticket for £8 which will entitle you to one reduced price drink at each venue. For tickets, enquire at Frome Information Centre in the library – 01373 465757 – or your local pub.
