Stars shine in frome ‘oscars’

THE 2012 Star Awards for Frome Amateur Operatic Society, where awards are presented to performers for their excellence throughout the year, was held at the Standerwick Suite on Saturday 28th April in an ‘Oscars’ style ceremony.
The venue and guests were dressed to impress, with the theme of the evening being ‘Beauty and the Beast’ in preparation for FAOS’ next production, which will be performed between Tuesday 15th and Saturday 19th May. A special lifetime achievement award was presented to FAOS stalwart, Shirley Copley, by the main sponsors of the evening, Travel Angels. Shirley received a standing ovation as she collected her award. The other award-winners were; Best Female Singer – Lou Knight, (sponsor; Millers Electrical Company); Best Male Singer – Tom Carpenter, (sponsor; The Corner House); Best Dancer – Sophie Herbert (sponsor; Danceworks); Award for ‘Youngest Ever Nominee’ – Holly McPhee Clarke, (sponsor; Andrew St John Discotheques); Best Young Female Performer – Lily Morrison (sponsor; The Little Flower Company); Best Young Male Performer – Matt Blake, (sponsor; CW Accountancy Services); Unsung Hero – Graeme Wakeling, (sponsor; White Row Country Foods); Best Actress – Joanne Plenty and Vic May, (sponsors NVB Architects and Part 2 Hair Salon); Best Actor – Steve Huggins, (sponsor; Coventry Building Society); Award of Excellence – Wayne Kelly, (sponsor; Somerset Standard); Members’ Award of Appreciation – Norman Elmer, (sponsor; Frome Memorial Theatre); Best Newcomer – Steve Waterfield, (sponsor; Frome Times); Outstanding Contribution – Terry Stewart, (sponsor; Salisbury Printing); Best Overall Performance – Nicole Wooldridge, (sponsor; Orchardleigh House and Estate).
