ASDA public meeting rearranged

APUBLIC meeting to discuss ASDA’s extended store plans has been reorganised for Wednesday 18th  of July in Frome Library at 7.30pm.

Originally, the meeting was set to take place back in May, but a representative from ASDA was ill and they were forced to cancel the meeting.

Last month, Frome Town Council recommended to Mendip District Council that planning permission for ASDA’s extended store is rejected due to the impact on the town centre that the development could have.

Residents and organisations have given their views on the ASDA extentions. Frome Civic Society rejected the “bland box extension” with Frome Chamber of Commerce stating “It is difficult to imagine a less imaginative design.”

Former Mayor of Frome, Martin Bax, said that if the extended store is granted planning permission it would be “adding insult to injury.” He has written to Mendip District Council outlining his concerns over an inadequate flood mitigation scheme proposed by ASDA, as well as his concern over the impact of the store on the local economy.
