Community First Responders “SAVE – LIVES”

THE ambulance service is calling for more volunteers from Frome to train as community first responders, and help deliver life-saving support to patients in the vital few minutes before an ambulance arrives. 

Living locally, community first responders respond to certain 999 calls and are often able to attend emergency situations before an ambulance can get there. In such situations time is of the essence – a patient who suffers a cardiac arrest stands an 85% chance of survival if they are treated immediately. These odds decrease by 10% with every minute that passes without treatment.

All community first responders receive a uniform and training which includes dealing with life threatening emergencies, and includes oxygen therapy and use of defibrillator.

The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is calling for volunteers from Frome to be part of this exciting and rewarding life-saving scheme. Volunteers must have a full driving licence and own transport.
