Frome Show shortlisted for national award

FROME’S annual agricultural and cheese show has been shortlisted for the second annual Farmers Guardian’s Show Business 2013 competition.

A public vote for the award closed last week, and the vote will now be combined with the votes of three industry judges to decide the overall winner.

Show secretary Brenda Scott said, “Being shortlisted is a brilliant achievement in itself and is a tribute to the not-so-small army of volunteers who turn up every year to help make it the success it is.

“We’re up against seven other one day shows from as far apart as Aberdeenshire and Sussex, but we’re the only one in the South West. Each of the shows, like Frome, has its own unique character and appeal and it will depend very much on how visitors to each show vote that will determine which one is the winner.

Farmers Guardian editor Emma Penny said, “We were delighted by the volume and quality of entries. It is great to see so many shows keen to take part. Whittling entries down to the final shortlist has not been an easy task. It is difficult to choose one event over another when they are so diverse.

“The finalists represent a great mix of shows which each have their own challenges, but are working hard within their communities and remaining loyal to their roots.”

This year’s Frome Cheese Show will be held on Saturday 14th September at the West Woodlands Showground. Keep an eye on fromecheeseshow.co.uk for more information about the day’s events.
