An innovative new campaign to encourage people to think about starting their own business in Mendip is under way.
Enterprise Mendip is a business start-up initiative, developed by Mendip District Council in partnership with local chambers of commerce from across the district.
Frome Chamber of Commerce will be running their own individual programmes of activities. These range from helping people to explore and research their business idea, to accessing voluntary business mentors and attending events to network and learn about the different aspects of starting up a company.
Nigel Harris, president of Frome Chamber of Commerce said, “This is a great opportunity for the business community to work together to support new start-ups locally. The first few years of running a new business are often extremely challenging, and the more help and support they receive can make all the difference between success and failure.”
Cllr Tom Killen, deputy leader of Mendip District Council said, “Mendip is a fantastic place to start and grow a business, and this exciting new scheme will help those people with a new business idea, or who may be thinking about self-employment following redundancy.
“Many people dream about starting a business, but it’s not always easy to find help and advice on your doorstep to turn that into reality. By working with the Chambers Of Commerce, we can help people to access that vital support locally.”
Mendip District Council has provided each of the district’s Chambers Of Commerce with £5,000 in funding to help them provide a programmes of activities.
A wide programme of events will commence in the New Year. To sign up for the latest news and forthcoming events with Enterprise Mendip visit www.mendip.gov.uk/enter prisemendip.
