PUBLIC access to one of Frome’s largest and most central open spaces, Rodden Meadow, has been increased due to a land purchase by Frome Town Council.

The fence has been removed between the two areas of the meadow, ensuring public access to the new section which runs closest to the river.

Dickon Moore, mayor of Frome said, “Development in the town is squeezing our green spaces, so it’s fantastic to see one of the most important ones we have expanded and safe from future development.

“Rodden Meadow is a beautiful green space close to the town centre that is well used by many.”

The council have been negotiating with land owners for several years, and have dealt with numerous instances of horses being illegally grazed on the site.

Simon Woolen, Frome Town Council’s grounds & properties manager said, “It has been a long-term ambition of ours to re-unite the two parts of the meadow, and I am happy to say that this ‘green lung’ has now been saved. I hope that this will enable more people in the town to enjoy this outdoor space.”
