St. John’s, Frome continues its link with India

FOR the second year, St. John’s First School in Frome has been awarded a prestigious ‘Connecting Classrooms’ grant from the British Council in recognition of its commitment to teaching students about global issues.

The school, which is based in Christchurch Street East, works in partnership with the Hope Foundation School in India.

This grant will enable staff and pupils from St. John’s School and Hope School to work jointly on projects that will benefit pupils in both schools.

A school spokesperson said, “This link is very important to us. The classroom is a great place to start your world travels and working alongside Hope Foundation School gives us this opportunity to find out about each other’s lives.

“When St. John’s recently commemorated Indian Republic Day all of the children made decorated hand flags using the colours of the Indian flag, which they waved during a whole-school collective worship service.

“We are presently working jointly on an environmental project to enable us to compare how daily activities impact on energy usage in both India and the UK.”
