LOCAL woman Shane Ibbitson from Frome, a dedicated supporter of The Forever Friends Appeal, has cycled to success in her very own personal static bike challenge.

She lives with serious joint disease, degenerative osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia, a long-term condition which causes pain all over her body. She has regular treatment and physiotherapy at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. Despite her joint problems and pain she is always positive and determined to help fundraise as well as raise the profile of the RUH Cancer Care Campaign in the local area.

Shane’s goal was to cycle 12 kilometers over two days on a static bike at Frome Leisure Centre, but recently managed to complete an incredible 14.46 kilometers in total. She has raised a brilliant £271 so far and monies are still coming in.

Shane said, “Thank you so much to everyone who has sponsored me as well as Frome Leisure Centre for your support; it really spurred me on to complete this challenge and go beyond what I thought I could achieve!

“I chose to support the RUH Cancer Care Campaign because I really wanted to say thank you to the staff at the hospital for being there for me over the years. The current cancer facilities are in desperate need of an update – so I wanted to do something positive to help those who may need them in the future.”

The Forever Friends Appeal’s RUH Cancer Care Campaign aims to raise a minimum of £8.5 million towards the build of an exceptional new Cancer Centre at the RUH in Bath. This wonderful new Centre will take a holistic approach that balances clinical expertise with a truly therapeutic and healing environment. Designed around the patient journey, this Centre will transform care for patients and their families.

Laura Pearce, events fundraiser at The Forever Friends Appeal said, “Shane is an absolutely incredible person and her determination to take on physical challenges to support the campaign is truly inspiring.

“With the RUH treating thousands of patients from all over Bath, and surrounding towns and villages in Somerset and Wiltshire including Frome, the Cancer Care Campaign is close to the hearts of so many.”
