Frome’s Spellbound auditions for The Wizard of Oz

SOMEWHERE over the Rainbow in the Merry Old Land of Frome a search is starting to find ‘The Wizard of Oz’,  starting with a workshop in April.

Spellbound’s creative team, led by Emma Hill, director/choreographer and Kerry Bishop, musical director, will be searching for a Dorothy, Tinman, Scarecrow, Lion, Wicked Witch, Munchkins – and many more characters to create the fabulous musical, ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

Spellbound is the youth section of the Frome Musical Theatre Company (the former Frome Operatic Society) and this year the group celebrates it’s 25th show. ‘The Wizard of Oz’ film starring Judy Garland is celebrating 75 years and with Frome Festival planning to host a world record attempt for the most people dressed as characters from ‘The Wizard of Oz’ on 13th July – it looks like there will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy this classic story this summer.

To start with, a two-day workshop will take place in the assembly rooms, behind the Memorial Theatre on 8th and 15th April  from 9.30am – 4.30pm.

Any young person in school years 3-11 (aged seven – 16) can attend the sessions where they will learn songs, dances and enjoy acting and performing with other young hopefuls.

A cast of 50 ‘Spellbounders’ will then be selected to perform the full musical on stage on 7th, 8th and 9th August at Frome Memorial Theatre after a week long intensive workshop. So if you like performing then ‘Follow the Yellow Brick Road’ to Frome this Easter.
