Sponsored tattoo for charity for Frome poetry

Some people jump out of planes to raise money for charity, but for local poetrix Muriel Lavender, the fun’s over too quickly: she’s found a more permanent way to help Dorothy House Hospice Care and Depression Alliance.

Muriel is already the World No. 2 Bearded Lady – and also the highest-ranked bearded person in the UK! This 13th September, she’s co-hosting the British Beard and Moustache Championships at Bath Pavilion.

To raise even more funds for the event’s chosen charities, she’s getting a sponsored TATTOO. She said, “It’s a big one – six hours’ work at least! so I’m keen to make the pain worthwhile by raising as much money as possible. The hardest bit, though, was having to tell my mum!”

Beard Clubs raise huge amounts for good causes – in just over a month, Muriel’s campaign has already raised over £1000. She added, “I’m overwhelmed at how generous people are. Initially I thought it would be great to raise £700, but we raced past that in three weeks. I’m using a crowdfunding site so if I can get to £1300, that means all costs and fees are covered and I can pass on a clear thousand to the charities. That’s my goal!”

So what’s it going to be? Muriel said, “I’m bringing three of my great loves together: Shakespeare, Beards – and Octopi!

“It’s a specially-commissioned piece, absolutely unique, by LA-based artist Brian Kesinger. So I can’t reveal the full details until the big day!”

Award-winning tattooist Jo Black of Frome’s Black Inc Tattoo Studio will be recreating the chosen artwork on 24th July – it’s rumoured that Muriel may not be able to sit down for a week! The event will also be covered in Skin Deep Tattoo Magazine, a well-known national magazine with a huge following.
