Frome Rotarian Mike Adams spoke at a Rotary meeting recently about radio in disaster response.
Mike explained that he is not quite as active in Rotary at local level as he would like to be, as his work takes him all over the world when disasters happen.
Humphrey Barnes of Frome Rotary said, “As many readers are aware, Rotary supply Water and Shelter Boxes when disasters happen where and whenever they are needed. Mike also works in disaster response and heads up First Response Radio (FRR), their radio-in-a-suitcase FM stations provide communication when disasters hit anywhere in the world. The devastated communities can get life-saving information over FM radios.
“Mike is very keen to include wind-up radios in each and every Shelter Box, the initial cost of this would be as little as £10 each. His talk was extremely interesting and First Response Radio teams are obviously doing life-saving work.
“Mike and his wife Bridget will be leaving Frome in the New Year for a two year assignment in Cambodia where much of his work is needed. We wish him and his family a successful stay in Cambodia and look forward to seeing him again in Frome in two years’ time.”
