Fair Frome Food Bank opens

Fair Frome’s volunteers were out in force during the weekend of 4th/5th October to mark the launch of the Frome Food Bank which opened recently.

A team of Trustees and volunteers were joined by the mayor of Frome at a collection weekend at ASDA and a market stall at Frome’s Independent Market.  Both events providing an opportunity to collect food to make up three-day emergency food parcels for local people experiencing financial crisis leading to food poverty, and to talk to local residents about Fair Frome and why a Food Bank is needed in the town.

The weekend was hailed a great success with the collection of 18 full trolleys of donations from ASDA over the weekend and £159 raised in donations from the sale of soup made with vegetables donated by Frome Allotments and fresh produce also donated and a further donation of £70 from Apple Pressing at the Independent Market.

Kate Hellard, the projects coordinator said, “We have been overwhelmed with the generosity of local people and businesses and would particularly like to thank everyone who supported us at ASDA and to the staff at ASDA for enabling the collection weekend to happen.

“We would also like to thank The Frome Independent,  Lidl, the Garden Cafe, Frome Allotments, The Mount Community Association and The Settle Bakery for their contributions to Sunday’s stall.”
