FMTC welcome you to the 60’s!

Tickets are selling fast for Frome Musical Theatre Company’s spring production.

The hit Broadway musical ‘Hairspray’ runs from Tuesday 12th – Saturday 16th May at the Memorial Theatre and promises to be a show stopper packed with vibrant colours, groovy musical numbers and oozing that sassy 60’s style.

‘Hairspray’ will follow successes for the group such as ‘Robin Hood & the Babes in the Wood’, ‘Our House’, ‘Hello Dolly!’, ‘Cinderella’, ‘Sweeney Todd’ and ‘The Sound of Music’. This company really do provide a top notch musical theatre offering all year round, to tantalise the taste buds of audiences in the town and surrounding areas, and this production is one not to be missed!

It’s 1962 and change is in the air in Baltimore where Tracy Turnblad, a plump teenager with big hair and even bigger dreams has one passion – to dance on The Corny Collins Show.

When she wins a place on the show she becomes a star overnight much to the outrage of the stage manager Velma, who is against her trend setting ways and her friendships with the ‘Negro Day’ dancers, who up until now have to have a separate show.

Tracy, with the help of her best friend Penny, larger than life Mother Edna and Motormouth Maybelle launch a campaign to integrate the show to make a positive change within society so they can all dance together!

Based on the 1988 John Walters film, the musical adaptation opened in Broadway in 2002 and went on to win eight Tony Awards; it was followed by a London West End production, National Tours and of the course the fabulous 2007 revival of the movie starring John Travolta.

With amateur rights recently released this group couldn’t wait to get their dancing shoes on to perform sensational numbers such as ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’, ‘Good Morning Baltimore’ and ‘You’re Timeless to Me’.

The principal line up is as follows, Tracy Turnblad: Nicole Wooldridge, Corny Collins: Matt Graham, Edna Turnblad: Jon O’Loughlin, Penny Pingleton: Tabitha Cox, Velma Von Tussle: Joanne Plenty, Amber Von Tussle: Leonie Harrison, Link Larkin: Ed Henderson, Seaweed J. Stubbs: Ryan Hughes, Little Inez: Jasmine Shillabeer, Motormouth Maybelle: Lou Knight and Wilbur Turnblad: Norm Langley.
