Sports Day at The Frome Independent

The return of The Frome Independent market was hailed as a great success on Sunday 1st March.

The town centre will once again become host to more than 200 stalls providing all manner of temptations at their next edition on Easter Sunday, 5th April.

Visitors should expect the usual high quality array of designer maker creations, products for the home and garden, foraged vintage finds and all manner of mouth-watering morsels from the many varied food producers and street food sellers.

With new year’s resolutions to get match fit fading fast and visits to the market food traders compounding the issue, the organisers of The Frome Independent came up with the idea of a sports themed market.

Market organiser, Tabitha Clayson said, “Frome is teeming with sports clubs and organisations so we thought we’d give visitors the chance to meet them all and see some of them in action! They’ll be encouraging people to put a spring in their step, to get fit, get outside and get sporty –  and lets face it carrying and lifting, albeit hopefully heavily laden shopping bags, home from the market doesn’t really count as exercise does it?!

“We’re inviting visitors to amble, walk, jog, skate, cycle, (or take the park and ride bus from Frome Medical Centre) and come and explore the full A-Z of activities: from archery to Zumba and back again. There’ll be the chance to sign up to clubs, talk to experts and watch Frome’s finest demonstrating their sporting prowess or to join in and give it a go.

“Visitors will be able to pit their wits against a world class player in a giant game of chess with Frome Chess Club; try their hand at target bowls with Frome Park Bowls Club; learn some footie skills and get a bit of shooting practice with Frome Town Football Club; book in for a one to one fly fishing casting master-class with Frome Fly Fishing Adventures; head for dizzying heights by scaling Aveling Adventure’s mobile climbing wall or watch Frome Canoe Club’s super slalom action on the river.

“Sports clubs will be located in Justice Lane and activities and demonstrations will take place at the pop up village green-cum-games field. So grab your trainers and a couple of shopping bags and join us for all the usual shopping and socialising with an added sprinkling of sporting adventures on Sunday 5th April.”
