Frome’s local support group for people with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) had its official launch in April at the South Parade Club in Frome.
Cllr Peter MacFadyen, the Frome Town Mayor, attended the event and chatted to local people about what it is like to live with this condition. Physiotherapist Louise Hughes, from Dorothy House Hospice, gave a presentation to the group about different breathing and relaxation techniques.
Louise was pleased that so many people attended. She said, “It was lovely to be invited along and to meet people with an interest in supporting themselves, and providing a much needed community service.”
Mike Hall is the founder and chair of the committee for the new COPD group. He commented, “I just want to help people with the same disease I have, which is why I’ve formed this group. I’d also like to thank East Mendip Federation and Health Connections for their support, and South Parade Club for providing the venue.”
The Frome COPD support group offers an opportunity for those with experience of the condition to share their knowledge and to support each other. Guest speakers and organisations are also invited to share their expertise regarding lung diseases.
Frome and District COPD Support Group will be having its next monthly meeting on Wednesday 13th May from 10.30am to 12.00noon at the South Parade Club, South Parade, Frome (BA11 1EJ). For further details, please contact Jenny Hartnoll via email at: j.hartnoll@nhs.net or tel: 07538 546009.
