Frome Town Football Club and Frome Town Sports have signed a new five year ground share agreement.
Sports, who since their formation back in the 1970s as Frome Victoria, have played on many pitches around the town and surrounding area without ever having somewhere to call home, but moved to Frome Town two seasons ago as part of a long term development plan for football in the town and for both clubs.
The new deal will see Sports, who are about to embark on their first season in the Somerset County League Division One following back-to-back promotions, will play all their first team home games at the stadium on Berkley Road for a minimum of the next five seasons.
Managing director of Frome Town Ian Pearce was pleased the new deal was completed. He said, “We have been really happy since Frome Town Sports moved onto the ground and they have been model tenants.
“We have struck up a good relationship between the two clubs and people like Mark Evans (manager), Paul Whitley (secretary) and Gareth Wright (chairman). Their vision moving forward will be great for the town and its aspiring players and we hope to be able to help them build on their successes of the last few years in whatever way we can.”
Gareth Wright from Frome Town Sports was equally delighted with the new arrangement. He said, “We would like to thank all the Board at Frome Town for their backing on this new agreement which helps give our club longer term stability and it means we can concentrate on all the other off-field aspects of making sure the club are in the right place to be able to move forward again as soon as the opportunity arises.
“We have come along way in a short space of time and our ultimate aim is to achieve Western League football, something we would never have been able to do without the help of Frome Town due to the facilities required.”
