Mells set for Scenic 7 race

This year’s Mells Scenic 7, which will be held on Sunday 27th September at 11.00am in the village of Mells, looks set to attract a larger field of local runners than ever.

Organised by Frome Running Club, the race route takes in Somerset’s magnificent countryside, from its start in the historic village of Mells. Along the way, the runners will negotiate everything from muddy riverside paths to hilly tracks and fields of corn and clover, with a few stiles thrown in for good measure.

Last year, over 200 runners gave the race a big thumbs up.  Comments about the race ranged from “brilliant” to “superb”, with competitors unanimously praising the variety of terrain, the superb scenery, friendly marshals and mementos.

“We hope that this year’s race will attract not just experienced off road runners, but also those who want to try something a bit different”, says race director Becky Webb. “The Mells Scenic 7 delivers a great balance of challenging terrain, magnificent atmosphere and a really friendly atmosphere.

“As well as trophies for the lucky category winners, all finishers receive a memento and goody bags for their efforts. Runners and spectators will also be able to sample an array of homemade cakes and tea throughout the morning in the cricket club pavilion. The 2015 race looks set to be another great event.”

This year’s race also celebrates Jim Plunkett-Cole’s 1,000th 10k in a row. Jim has been running 10k a day on top of at least a 750m swim and a 20k bike ride in a bid to raise money for Frome’s own Positive Action on Cancer. Frome Running Club will donate £1 from all entries to PAC to continue their good work.

In these cash-strapped times, business support from the local community is more important than ever. Frome Running Club is grateful once again for the support of Live2Ride, DEKA, Roland John Hair Studio and Running Bath. The Walled Garden at Mells and The George at Nunney have also kindly agreed to support this year’s race.

Entry forms can be downloaded from:  www.fromerunningclub.org.uk  The closing date for postal entries is 20th September (or when the race entry limit is reached). Entries on the day are accepted and there is a Juniors race starting at 10.30am.
