A new sports audit is the first action to be taken by the newly created Frome Town Council Sports and Leisure panel.
The audit will identify gaps in sporting activity and facilities in Frome and help identify ways to help fill those gaps.
The audit will result in a list of formal sports groups and activities, informal groups and leisure activities, parks open spaces and the facilities that they provide and a list of facilities where these activities are undertaken.
Rachel Griffin from Frome Active is undertaking the work and said, “Sports facilities in the town are sometimes seen to be lagging behind other local towns so it will be good to get the whole picture, identify gaps but also hunt out spaces and facilities that could be made greater use off that may otherwise hidden.”
This information will then be used to help clubs looking for indoor spaces for winter, floodlit training, pitches etc.
The next Frome Town Council Sports and Leisure Panel is on Tuesday 6th October at Frome Rugby Club at 7.00pm. Like all the panel meetings it is public and so any interested member of the public may attend.
The aim of this panel is to identify gaps in sports and leisure provision, bring groups and facilities together to find practical solutions and to look at goals both immediate and longer term. The audit is the first practical step.
The meeting will focus on agreeing a timescale and action plan for the delivery of a series of projects, set priorities and agree discrete achievable plans which will be informed by the audit. As such it is very important that all groups are included in it, to allow for the fullest possible picture, particularly the informal groups which will be harder to identify.
Any clubs that the council may not be aware of, possibly because they are informal groups etc, and would like to be included, are invited to take part in the audit and are urged to get in touch in the first instance with rachygriff@ gmail.com as soon as possible.
