Frome organisation Home in Frome put on a fun event on Saturday 17th October in Frome Town Centre.
Members gathered at 10.30am at the Cheese and Grain, where many of the group’s banners are on display. The banners celebrate the industries and jobs that have been important in the history of Frome. There was then a procession across the Market Yard and Town Centre to Cheap Street.
From 11.00am – 12.00 noon the book ‘Fifty Frome Banners’ was on sale outside Hunting Raven Bookshop. It is lavishly illustrated with lovely photos of the banners by Home in Frome Secretary Gill Harry.
Home in Frome Editor John Payne has added a few words on each page explaining why particular trades and industries were important in the growth of Frome as a market and industrial town.
John Payne is thrilled with the new book. He said, “So many people, adults and children, took part in the workshops at Sun Street Chapel to make the banners. It was the highlight of the summer for me and I’m sure for many others. We need to remember as a town where we have come from as well as where we are going to.”
Fifty Frome Banners is a limited edition of only 300 copies. Costing just £5 it will make an ideal Christmas present for anyone who loves Frome. It is on sale at Hunting Raven Bookshop and at Frome Information Centre in the Library.
