Exciting new classes and workshops with Somerset Skills & Learning

There is a lot happening at Somerset Skills & Learning this term, with new classes beginning in November with something for all skill levels and interests.

Amanda Bee, lead tutor arts media and publishing said, “On Friday 6th November from 10.00am-12.00noon for 10 weeks we have ‘Art School-Painting & Drawing’ tutored by local artist Joy Merron. The course is aimed at beginners or those with some experience wishing to have a go with a variety of materials and projects. The course code is AB115FRE10 and it costs £105 or £55 concession.

“On 11th November running for 10 weeks, 7.00-9.00pm we have ‘Sewing for All Abilities’ with local tutor Alison Vaas. If you are a beginner you will learn all the basics such as cutting out a pattern, creating seams, tucks and hems.

“As a more experienced sewer you will learn how to insert zips, create pleats, insert pockets and much more. Using your own choice of vintage or new material you will soon be making beautiful and one off pieces. The course costs £105 or £55 concession and the code is AB115FRC15

“Finally we have two workshops on Saturday 14th November from 10.00am – 4.30pm. The first one is ‘Stained Glass – Leadlights for Beginners’ run by experienced stained glass teacher Helga Watkins-Baker. You will be shown the traditional techniques of stained glass enabling you to make either a panel or light catcher by the end of the day. This course costs £35 or £20 concession. “The second course is ‘Leather Bound Bookbinding’ run by local bookbinder Stephen Glendenning. You will be shown all the skills you need to make a Victorian style leather bound book including marbled inner sleeve. You will need to supply your own hardback book. This course costs £32 or £17 concession. The code is AB115FRF05.

“For both of these classes you will need to bring a packed lunch and there may be additional costs for some materials.
