Young brass band seeks budding musicians

A Frome musical group is offering the opportunity to budding musicians to learn a brass instrument and join a band.

The Frome Town Youth Band is seeking people who would like the chance to play in a musical group and perform at local events.

Formed in 1997, the band aims to help young people, as well as people of all ages, get involved in learning to play musical instruments and performing a wide range of music.

New band members will have the use of a brass instrument such as a cornet, tenor horn, trombone, bass, baritone or euphonium and they will be able to take part in weekly group lessons which are held every Friday between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

The first introductory session is due to be held on Friday 6th November. There is a £10 joining fee and there is a monthly fee of £4 for regular members.

Once new members have reached the right standard they are able to join the regular band which practices twice a week on Wednesday and Friday and regularly performs at events across Frome such as local fetes, the monthly market, the Cheese Show and The Carnival.

The band also holds an annual Christmas concert which this year will be held on Sunday 13th December at the Cheese and Grain.

Band manager Jim Boulter, who helped set up the band said, “We welcome people young and old who would like to play in a friendly local brass band.

“If you would like to learn to play a brass instrument or if you already play one and would like the opportunity to join a group then we would love to hear from you.”
