Let the children eat cake

Dear Sir

I must congratulate our MP, Mr David Warburton on his flexible physique, how else could he so contort himself into justifying the unjustifiable?

His use of statistics is disingenuous, not least is his reference to the Universal Credit supplement which, lest he has forgotten, is only temporary. The only thing missing from his irrelevant alternatives to alleviating hunger was a suggestion, first attributed to Marie Antoinette, that the children should eat cake.

I will not be the only constituent of this profoundly Trappist MP for, in his vow of silence, he responds neither to letters nor to emails. I cannot recall the last time he made a contribution in the House of Commons, no doubt he could tell us. He cavils about ways to support hungry children when he can dine and drink fine wines in the House of Commons Members’ Dining Room at heavily subsidised prices. These, lest he forget, are courtesy of his constituents who pay his wages.

I draw your readers’ attention to the Old Testament parable of Dives, the rich man and Lazarus, the beggar; Luke 16 – 22, 23 – “And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.”

Mr Warburton truly justifies being styled Dives Warburton, MP.
