Café kicks off return to community fund raising for WHY

FROME-BASED charity We Hear You (WHY) is celebrating its return to face-to-face fundraising in the community after its pop-up café at Rook Lane for Frome Festival raised £600.

Fundraising officer Helen White said, “We’ve been amazed and so grateful for all the support we’ve received from the community throughout the pandemic and we’ve definitely brushed up our skills where virtual events are concerned!

“Nonetheless, it felt fantastic to bring our volunteers together again and return to our community fundraising roots, running an eight-day pop-up café alongside Frome Festival’s 20th anniversary exhibition at Rook Lane.

“We had so many deliveries of delicious cakes and savouries to sell – special thanks to Keren and the team at Events Horizon for their contribution, coming so soon after raising £645 for WHY in Small Charity Week earlier in June. Thanks also to our volunteer team for staffing the café and making it such a success.

“The £600 raised is of huge importance and we’ll make good use of every penny, including donating 10% to our hosts at the festival. But even more importantly, we’ve come together and connected with the community, spreading the word about our service.   WHY is still very much here for any children and adults coping with the emotional impact of cancer and life-threatening conditions, including Covid-19 and we want to make sure everyone who needs us knows about us.”
