Thrilling Faulklands memoir heralds the return of live events for Hunting Raven

WINSTONE’S Hunting Raven Books will be holding its first live book event since lockdown began on Thursday 22nd July, with the thrilling, edge-of-your-seat true story of one soldier’s Special Forces operations in the Falklands War.

“After passing the world’s toughest Special Forces selection and joining the elite ranks of D Squadron, 22 SAS in 1979, Mark ‘Splash’ Aston thought the hard part was over,” explained bookshop manager, Tina Gaisford-Waller. “Then on 2nd April 1982 Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands.

“Days later, D Squadron joined the cutting edge of Britain’s campaign to retake the islands. Facing extreme weather and a determined enemy, Splash and the men of D Squadron fought in one extraordinary contact after another.

“When tragedy struck their Sea King helicopter and it crashed in the freezing South Atlantic, Splash was one of just nine survivors. Evacuated to a hospital ship, Splash defied orders and a suspected broken neck to re-join his unit until the fight was won.

“The resulting book, co-authored by former army Colonel and bestselling author Stuart Tootal, is an un-putdown-able, edge-of-the-seat insight into still classified Special Forces operations during the Falklands War, SAS.

“Join us for an in-conversation event with Splash and Stuart, followed by a Q&A and book signing. The event will take place Thursday 22nd July at 7.30pm at Frome Town Hall. Tickets are £5 and can be bought online at or by contacting Winstone’s Hunting Raven Books on winstonebooks3@ or 01373 473111.

“Books will be available on the night at the special price of £15 and Mark and Stuart will be happy to sign them.”
