Frome Lions’ annual sporting dinner raises thousands for charity

FROME Lions recently hosted their annual sporting dinner, raising an estimated £10,000 for two local charities.

“The sporting dinner was held at Elmhay Park, Orchardleigh Park at the end of March by kind permission of Mr. Christopher Vincent,” reports Frome Lion Mike Geake.

“This year the guest speaker was Katy Daley-MacLean MBE, the World Cup winning England Ladies Rugby captain and head of performance at Sale Sharks.

“Just under 200 guests sat down to an excellent meal and afterwards to hear her talk about her time as both a player and latterly administrator.

“This year there were two chosen charities for the event. They were Children’s Hospice (South West), which exists to make the most of the lives of children and young people with life limiting conditions, and Dorothy House Hospice, which is well known in the Frome and Bath area for their work of providing exceptional personal care and support to those approaching the end of their lives, and to their loved ones.

“The proceeds from the event are still being finalised as we go to press  but it is anticipated that the Lions will be able to donate in the region of £10,000 to the chosen charities.

“The Lions would like to thank Connor Construction (South West) Ltd for overall sponsorship of the event, Christopher Vincent for donating the venue for the night, Andrew Lee for comparing the evening and Martin Hemmett for conducting the auction and last but not least all the companies and individuals who generously supplied items for the auction and raffle prizes.”
